susan j Not for the explosions, videogames, and superheros crowd. For others, thoroughly enjoyable. Incredible cast. Packed top to bottom with fabulous actors--some well-known, some less so. It's a poignant thoughtful human film, with depth and subtly. My guess is when it came out people didn't like it but now it's kind of a rare gem, with depth, complexity, and thoughtful meanderings....plus shots of Paris, bits about art, gorgeous cinematography, haute cuisine, beautiful young people, interesting story. Watching it felt like a respite from our fraught angry divisive world of 2023. This movie is based on the book I never read and don't plan on reading. This flick is a bore showcasing the upper middle class families and their problems. Watts's husband leaves her while being pregnant, while he goes off with another married person. The story depicts the French and American cultures and how different we are from each other.
